Mauricio Pochettino has slammed Alan Shearer and his dangerous criticism of Chelsea striker Nicholas Jackson. The Senegalese striker moved to the Blues from Villarreal for £32m in the summer. But it will still take time to adjust to life at Stamford Bridge.
The 22-year-old has scored just two Premier League goals in nine matches. And once again struggled to show his potential in Saturday’s 0-2 loss to Brentford UFABET
This led to criticism from Shearer on Match of the Day, who claimed Jackson was not a natural striker. And said he appeared to need a lot of help in that position. With Pochettino having to intervene when the striker was criticized by Chelsea fans.
However, the Argentine supported Jackson and suggested Shearer’s criticism was unwarranted.
“You need more games to [have Shearer] express his opinion.” Pochettino said.
“If you look at games against Liverpool, Dortmund or Luton in different situations. He is a different player. This kind of analysis in one game is dangerous.”
“Nico is not at his best. But if you watch him in another game, he’s a different person. If you see him against Brentford. He’s a different person. We have to be fair with our analysis. We must give him time. I believe in him.”
